Download version 1
Version 1 uses a PHP script to get the current date and time, and accepts PHP date format strings for customizing the output. You may need to navigate to this extension’s files and update the timezone specified in date.php
. You can find acceptable timezone identifiers here. If you’re reasonably familiar with PHP, you can also change the default date string.
Usage
> datetime
query optional, default will return full date string. December 7, 2011 11:19:42am
> datetime H:i:s
returns 11:20:18

Download version 2
Version 2 is entirely in shell.
Usage
> dt
query optional, default will return full date string. Wed Dec 7 11:21:58 PST 2011
> dt +%T
returns 11:22:19

Of course, with either of these extensions – or any other – you can change the keyword to something else you’d prefre.
